Direct Application (Execution Only Transactions)
Special Risk Warning & Terms
This is where you may decide to choose a product yourself and use an IFA or company like us to register it for you.
An execution-only service is designed for investors who do not require advice but who do need an adviser like an IFA to, say, purchase unit trusts.
There is no element of advice or management in this service and so the costs of transacting business are generally lower than with the other services.
A number of adviser firms are specialists in this area and offer low cost execution of orders efficiently and quickly. Their clients know exactly what they want to do, and simply require an effective "no frills" service. Many other brokers also provide "execution-only" facilities in addition to discretionary and advisory services.
The development of the Internet and the increased popularity of nominee accounts means there is no longer any need for human contact with a broker.
What is 'Execution Only'?
An 'execution only' transaction is viewed by the Financial Services Authority as a case where you have:
- Identified the product you require
- Stated the premium you are willing to pay or the amount you are willing to invest
- Selected the product provider you wish to do the business with
- Selected, if appropriate, the fund
- Selected, if appropriate, the term of the contract
In summary:
No advice has been requested by you (the client) or given by us (the adviser), nor do you expect any advice (the client).
What Are the Advantages of 'Execution Only'
It may be easier for you to transact 'execution only' business with us because we will not require you to complete a detailed Fact Find, you may not want a meeting or have little time. If you are an existing client, however, this may not be an advantage because you may have already recently completed a Fact Find.
As there is no requirement to provide advice to you we will normally reduce our initial commission entitlement which will normally either reduce the standard charges/costs on your investment/product or increase the amount actually invested/covered. If your preferred payment method is by fee then that will normally be reduced.
What Are the Disadvantages of 'Execution Only'?
Since you would not be receiving any advice from us you may find that there is an important issue concerning the investment/product or the product provider that you have overlooked.
You would receive less protection in the event of a failure of your investment/product. For example, you would be unlikely to be successful in a complaint against us for 'mis-selling'.
Suggestions if you still wish to proceed
Please note there are charges in all contracts so please read these through carefully. You should also be clear in your own mind on what the future and ongoing charges will be.
Ideally you should conduct detailed research (which you really should carry out before taking any direct route) because if you chose the product yourself, you will have nobody to blame except yourself and will be highly unlikely to be able to claim any compensation later on. (Unless the product provider went out of business, in which case you would be covered by the Policy Holders Protection Act up to the limits of the terms).
